NatCat Student Awards Program

The NatCat Student Awards Program was developed for students interested in volunteering with shelter cats and training on proper shelter-cat care. Located at NatCat Newport, the Program consists of three levels based on the time spent volunteering and training:

Bronze Tabby
For students in: • Elementary school• Middle school • High school To complete, students must: Volunteer for 10 hoursUpon completion, earn a: • Certificate of Appreciation• Bronze Paw Medal • Photo taken with President Denise Johnston, to appear on NatCat.org and in the shelter |
Silver Tabby
For students in: • Middle school• High school To complete, students must: • Volunteer for 20 hours• Train with our vet tech on: - Brushing all types of fur, such as matted fur - Minimal restraint - Cleaning eyes and ears - Trimming nails - The importance of spaying/neutering • Write a paper on cat grooming and spaying/neutering* Upon completion, earn a: • Certificate of Appreciation• Silver Paw Medal • Photo taken with President Denise Johnston, to appear on NatCat.org and in the shelter *Or approved topics |
Gold Tabby
For students in: • Middle school• High school • Post-High school To complete, students must: • Volunteer for 20 hours• Train for two days with our vet tech on: - Cleaning cages - Feeding - Checking health - Counting cats - Litter pan/dish cleaning - Laundry - Grooming techniques - The importance of spaying/neutering in detail • Write a paper on shelter-cat care and spaying/neutering* Upon completion, earn a: • Certificate of Appreciation• Gold Paw Medal • Photo taken with President Denise Johnston, to appear on NatCat.org and in the shelter |
